Dina DiMaggio

I’m a board certified pediatrician at Pediatric Associates of NYC (where I met Liza and Susan), one of the oldest pediatric practices in Manhattan, and a clinical instructor at NYU Langone Medical Center. I attended Barnard College (where I met Amanda), graduated summa cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society, and went on to attend medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (with Amanda), where I was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. I completed my pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (where I met Anthony and Persephone) and my hematology/oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I am dedicated to educating parents on baby and toddler nutrition and give talks to parent groups throughout New York.

My parents remember that as early as five years old I would say I wanted to be a pediatrician when I was older to help others and “keep them healthy”. My father, an immigrant from Italy, would work long hours seven days a week to be able to provide my sisters and I with an education. He always stressed the importance of hard work and the power of an education, which set the foundation for my own love of learning.

Like Anthony, I was overweight as a child, which also truly formed who I am today. As an adult I was able to maintain a healthy weight by eating nutritious foods and exercising on a routine basis. My struggles with my own weight drove me to want to help others to eat healthy, which is learned at an early age, and was an inspiration for writing this book.
